Variety reported in an exclusive report that a musical based on Amy Winehouse is "officially in development." The report, written by K.J. Yossman, said the project is in its early days, although casting is said to be underway. Variety said Catherine Schreiber, a Broadway producer whose credits include Cabaret, Rent and the stage adaptation of High School Musical, is understood to be involved.

The Guardian reported that a musical based on Amy Winehouse is in development for London's West End, with the project still at an early stage. Citing Variety, the Guardian said Schreiber, whom it described as a Tony award-winning producer, is attached to the project. The Guardian, in a report by Owen Myers, said the stage show is reportedly set to feature the singer's best-loved songs, with involvement from her father, Mitch.

The two accounts differ in how firmly they describe Schreiber's role. Variety said she is understood to be involved, while the Guardian, relaying Variety, said she is attached. Both summaries describe the project as early-stage, but neither gives a theatre, opening date, or full creative team.

The Guardian's summary is cut off before it describes the status of casting, so that report cannot be confirmed beyond Variety's account that casting is said to be underway. Neither outlet's available summary states when the musical might open or where it might be staged.
